POSH Girls > 07/08 Season PETERBOROUGH UNITED The POSH Girls have had yet another successful and exciting season in 07/08. Fielding four squads with x2 U11s and x2 U13s it has been a busy time. The main aim within the Peterborough United Coaching Centre is to develop our players to the best of their ability and give them the best opportunities in girls football. This season all our squads have played some fantastic football and every player is certainly developing their football skills as well as growing in confidence and knowledge. We have two teams in the local Fenland league (U11s & U13s) and two teams in the Cambridgeshire S-Tec league. Starting with the Fenland teams both squads have had some tough opposition this season and after our U10s won the double last season in the Fenland league teams were certainly out to beat us. Unfortunately the POSH team that won the double last season are now playing in the S-Tec league so this season's Fenland POSH U11s are a newly formed squad and many are playing 2 years below their age group. A terrific bunch of players who have shown great determination and spirit and have formed great relationships on and off the pitch. This team took no time in gelling together as a team and because of this have played excellent football. A very successful season for this squad both in the league and making it to the semi-finals in the cup.
The U13s Fenland side were again a newly formed squad and after loosing their goal keeper early on in the beginning of the season they had a tough start. I would say it probably took the first half of the season before this squad really started to gel together but once they did and their confidence grew there were some really excellent performances shown on the pitch. The girls also took a knock when they lost their manager during the season but despite all of the this the girls stuck together trained hard and ended the season with some lovely displays of football that could have put them in top spot had they started in this way. However football is a learning game and these are young players I would certainly look out for this squad next season as all players have really developed.
The U11s in the S-Tech league have another brilliant season not only winning the league but also winning the cup final and doing the double for a second season in a row. All girls have worked incredibly hard over the year and not only have they had success as a team they have all grown and developed as individual players. Next season will be a bit different for the girls as they are being set a new challenge of 11-a-side football. Over the next few months the girls will be preparing for next season and will have some tough pre-season friendlies to compete in.
The U13s also in the S-Tech league have had a terrific start to their 11-a-side football careers by winning their league. An enormous achievement for the team who have formed excellent relationships on and off the pitch which has certainly helped them in finding success in their first season together. Next year we are setting them tougher challenges by putting them into a different league which we believe will be harder for the girls. All of the players have developed really well this season as players and we are looking forward to arranging some tough pre-season friendlies for them.
All plans for Peterborough United Girls Football Development Centre are going really well. Open trials will be held on the 12th July 2008 at Hampton College to help set up the Advanced Centres. There will also be the opportunity to be selected to play in the Huntingdon Regional College Ladies squad and the Hunts County Rep Team. Next season Peterborough United Girls will have squads in the U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s age groups as well as the newly formed Advanced teams. Opportunities for female coaching staff is also available whether you have coached before or not.
