POSH Girls Match Reports - Nov 31st & 01st Dec 2007

U11s Fenland League POSH Girls (5) v March Hearts (0)

U.11 Posh Girls were in a determined mood when they faced bottom of the league side March Hearts. They started brightly and played with confidence, passing the ball constructively. They were rewarded with a well worked goal by Jessica Blackbird in the 6th minute. Throughout the first half Posh maintained their shape and balance and with their good pressure in midfield and defence scored a second goal through a deflected shot just before half time. Posh started the second half with passion and were dominant throughout. They displayed excellent passing, creating space for Stephania Chaudhuri to slot the ball away for her first goal for Posh. This was followed by a succession of opportunities that came through a very disciplined display by ALL the players. Stephania was given the chance to score her second goal after 20 minutes of domination by Posh, making the score 4-0.The only chance that March had was brilliantly rescued from going over our line by a back heel from Ellie Ireson. With 10 minutes to play Posh still continued to play with composure and were rewarded with a well worked goal scored by Katherine Amps, who moved well into space to receive the ball and calmly placed the ball into the goal. This was a greatly improved performance from the previous week and has given the team great confidence and belief for the weeks to come. Final score 5-0.

U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls (3) v Sawtry Girls (1)

POSH U11 S-Tech girls entertained Sawtry Colts at home and started uncharacteristically slowly allowing the visitors several opportunities to open the scoring. POSH were not without chances themselves but both teams failed to capitalize ensuring a 0-0 half time score. In the opening minutes after the restart POSH found second gear in striker Kier who happily smashed home POSH's first. However Sawtry linked up well and the No.4 picked her spot well to equalize three minutes later with a lovely top corner effort. POSH were quick to restart and thirty seconds later they were back in front as Alessia Mundo carved out an inspiring run up the wing to fire a cross to Perkins who secured her second. Mundo was involved again as she dealt with the visitors defence and finished with a delightful ball played from Maria Butler in centre midfield. Final score 3-1.

Manager: Justine Steele. Players: Katie Plumb • Fiona PLumb • Tiesha Bennett • Kim Lane • Alessia Mundo • Maria Butler • Frankie Jepson • Megan Parrett • Keir Perkins

U13s S-Tech League Bottisham (0) v POSH Girls (8) Cup

Unfortunately due to injury POSH Girls U13s traveled to bottisham for their second cup match on Saturday with only ten players. As the POSH Girls have been playing well over the last few weeks it made sense to play with only three at the back. In the first half the girls played well combining some good passing and using their speed down the wings to provide plenty of opportunities in the attacking third. The first goal came from Amy Challis who showed her versatility by playing a lot of the match in a centre mid-field role. Her well taken corner bent lovely into the top corner. This then set up a flurry of goals by POSH with big praise going to Elizabeth Pacey for bagging her first two goals for the squad. With extremely windy conditions Georgia Campbell-Turner took advantage of this by striking the ball with her consist ant power from the half way line to just hit wide of the post! 7-0 at half time the girls went into the second half full of positive play and confidence. Keeping the defending tight and battling hard against the wind more opportunities were made but with a change of keeper from Bottisham finding the back of the net was made more difficult. But success came when Stacie Heron finished off the scoring and gave the POSH Girls an 8-0 victory. Credit goes to all players who worked incredible hard with only ten players and never once grumbled! Final score 0-8 POSH Girls

Manager: Nikki Johnson Players: Lauren Brown • Georgia Campbell-Turner • Amy Challis • Emily Fox • Sarah Galpin •Lauretta Budge • Stacie Heron • Victoria Hoole • Elizabeth Pacey • Bethany Wilson

U13s Fenlands League Dersingham (5) v POSH Girls (1)

Traveling over an hour in the pouring rain and playing on a mud bath isn't everyone's idea of fun on a Sunday. But for the Fenland U13 POSH Girls with their determined spirit this is just a challenge they relish. Dersingham who are top of the league perhaps weren't quite expecting such a tough match. At times the game looked like it was being played in slow motion due to the mud and the POSH Girls literally got stuck in. Hannah Sansom was fantastic in defence and her pure passion to win balls saw her covered from head to toe in mud! Amy Morris worked extremely hard down the wing and when the girls won a free kick outside the area there was only player who was taking the opportunity and that was Morris! A brilliant delivery in saw Dersingham goalkeeper back peddling to just keep the ball from hitting the top right hand corner of the net. At half time the girls were 1-0 down but determined to get back out on pitch and playing much more attacking play forced Dersingham keeper to make some more saves. It then seemed to be a period of five minutes when POSH Girls got stuck in the mud and Dersingham put four goals in the net. However the saying 'It's not over until the fat lady sings' was just what POSH Girls did, battling hard and finding the feet of Lauretta Burdge who struck home to get back a goal. Unfortunately the girls ran out of time but just proves their 'never say die' attitude is growing all the time.

Players: Lauretta Burdge • Abbey Goymour • Kirsty Hall • Megan Jepson • Danielle Perkins • Jazzy Priddis • Hannah Sansom • Hollie Turner • Amy Morris
