U11s Fenland League Whittlesey(2) v POSH Girls (0)
Sat 5th Jan
POSH U.11s started their 2008 Fenland League season with a positive attitude to what was a difficult opening game against Whittlesey. They were eager and enthusiastic from the first whistle, displaying positive and constructive passing within the first 5 minutes. However they were unfortunate to go 1-0 down in the first 10 minutes, when the defence wre left standing by the Whittlesey attack. Throughout the rest of the first half POSH played a good team game, passing the ball effectively providing opportunities up front; several shots from Jessica Blackbird and Megan Parrett narrowly missed the target. This provided POSH with the momentum to keep battling, even though they were unfortunate to concede a second goal after 22nd minute. POSH kept control of the ball
and displayed excellent team spirit. POSH began the second half in a determined fashion, pressuring Whittlesey with determination. They deserved to be rewarded for their effort and excellent team work. Unfortunately even though opportuinities were presented they were unable to score the goal they deserved, through the strong defending and positional play by Whittlesey (players behind the ball = brick wall!). However Whittlesey were stopped in their tracks and had few opportunities to add to their score, especially thorough the mature performance of Ellie Ireson. POSH should be proud of how far they have developed since starting this team 8 months ago. They displayed excellent team spirit and team work and battled to the final whistle. Alexa the captain leads by example and many of the new players follow in her determination and enthusiasm on and off the pitch. Well done to all the team. Keep up your amazing enthusiasm and team spirit.
