U11s Fenland League Cup Stamford(4) v POSH Girls (1)

POSH U.11 travelled to Stamford for the next round of the cup. The sunshine brought enthusiasm and excitment within the team. They were keen to get started and up for the challenge. POSH started well and pressured from the whistle. They distributed the ball with accuracy and speed. This resulted in POSH going ahead with a goal from Jessica Blackbird who followed in her shot (saved by the keeper twice, but she kept her cool to slot the ball home) in the 15th minute. However Stamford were quick to counter-attack and put POSH under pressure from the whistle, an unfortunate deflection resulted in Stamford equalising within 1 minute. From then on the game was end to end with both teams playing open football, passing the ball, creating width and opportunities which Stamford took in the last 5 minutes. In the second half POSH continued to play with belief and passion which truely deserved to be rewarded with a goal. Unfortunately several shots narrowly missed the target, whereas Stamford put away 2 further goals within the first 10 minutes. This was not a fair reflection of the amount of possession that each team had. POSH kept their positions very well, although tiredness began to set in towards the end of the half as all the players had given 100% effort against a team with many more subs! They were the more constructive team throughout with continued improvement in passing and building the play from all areas of the pitch. The final score was Stamford 4 POSH 1. POSH continue to develop and with continued hard work, commitment and excellent team spirit will reap the rewards in the weeks to come. Well done POSH. You make us all very proud!
