POSH Girls Match Reports - Jan 26th 2008

U11s Fenland League Deeping Diamonds (8) v POSH Girls(1)

Sat 26th Jan

POSH travelled to top of the league side Deeping Diamonds knowing this was going to be a tough and challenging fixture. Deeping shocked POSH going 3-0 up within the first 15 minutes with some well executed strikes. However POSH dug deep and battled to gain possession and began to play with discipline and good teamwork. Unfortunately they were not able to capitilise on the chances they created. Deeping slotted two further goals in making it an up hill struggle for POSH. The team however displayed great team spirit, keeping the effort level high and this was rewarded when after a sustained period of possession by POSH, Alexa Hunter scored with a clinical strike in the top corner. They started the second half with renewed optimism with Alexa scoring her second with a stunning shot within the first 5 minutes. POSH began to have real belief in their play, passsing the ball constructively and with great confidence. Kim Lane gave them stability in the midfield and further opportunities were created, but it was a day of near misses! Deepings converted their chances scoring 2 further goals in quick succession. POSH have impressed this season through there continued work rate and effort even when they are behind. They battled right to the end and were quite rightly rewarded by accurate an strike by Megan Parrett in the final minute of the game. Final score Deeping 8 POSH 3. This team continues to improve and show real passion and enthusiasm. It is only time before they will hit back so get ready for next weeks game!

U11s S-Tech League Sawtry Colts(0) v POSH Girls(4)

Sat 26th Jan

U11 POSH Girls travelled the short distance to meet Sawtry in the S-Tech league. POSH having not played since before Christmas were itching to get started and did not disapoint the visiting supporters. After five minutes, curtesy of some beautiful one touch play between Kim Lane, Georgie Elsom and Alessia Mundo, Mundo bagged her first. There were no more goals in the first half but POSH passed and moved with urgency enjoying most of the possession. Sawtry had their chances but were silenced by the calm defence and Katie Plumb in goal mopped up anything that slipped through. Seven minutes into the second half Captain Kim and Striker Keir mounted another one touch attack allowing Kim to drive the ball into the bottom right to make it two. Ten minutes later, with the bit between her teeth Mundo struck gold as the keeper couldn't prevent the goalbound ball from firing into the back of the net. Then, just before the final whistle and to make it four, Mundo made sure of Megan Parretts on target strike as she helped it over the line to realise a hat-trick. Final score 4-0 to POSH as they host Peterborough Diamonds next week.

U13s Fenland League POSH Girls (0) v March Rangers(1)

Sat 26th Jan

U13 Fenland POSH Girls hosted March Rangers in what promised to be a closely fought match. The first half saw opportunities at both ends as Posh worked hard to create chances but unfortunately couldn't find the target. March nearly took the advantage from a threatening cross but Hanah Sansom met the ball confidently and cleared by scooping the ball inches over the bar. Hollie Turner in defence also met the ball well and was able to start the attack from the back as the midfield worked hard to deliver. In the second half March piled on the pressure to force Jazzy Priddis in goal to make quick and brave decisions. Again the visitors may have taken the advantage if it wasn't for the outstretched hand of the ever improving and guttsy Priddis. Having been battered twice in the face by close range balls Bethany Cameron might have been forgiven for backing out of challenges but she competed for every ball, winning most and was tireless in her effort as she and her teammates behind her battled to claim the lead. Almost securing a draw which some may say would have been a fair result, March showed their experience late in the game as while defending in their own half left a lone striker who duly received a long ball to finish and seal the fate of the POSH Girls despite the pressure that followed. Posh will be gutted by the result but should look ahead to their next game against Stamford where they will be looking to reward their obvious improvements with points. Final score 0 - 1.

U13s S-Tech League Comberton (2) v POSH Girls (3)

POSH Girls U13s S-Tech team traveled away to Comberton to play a match that could decide the league. Not having played since before Christmas due to postponed matches POSH Girls started nervously. Clearly with both teams up for the challenge, Comberton looking more relaxed and took the lead with a well struck goal. Hoping this would spark the POSH into life, Comberton gained their second goal in quick succession of the first putting more pressure on the POSH. However this was exactly what POSH needed and just when you thought it might be game over, the girls finding some fire fought back. Combining combination play, determination down the wings and just sheer passion in the middle of the park the girls worked a goal in open play. Beth Wilson who scored the goal by smashing it passed the Comberton keeper lifted her team and it looked like game on. At times there were outstanding performances by individual players on the pitch but the girls always looked like a squad. Just before half time the POSH Girls received a free kick. Just wide of the 18 yard box most players would look to cross the ball in for their players to be running far post, but Beth Wilson made sure the girls went in at half time with a 2-2 draw by placing the ball perfectly in the back of the net for one of the best goals from a set piece this season! The second half bought nail biting excitement and although the girls looked to be enjoying their football nervous spectators and managers needed something stronger than coffee! Opportunities were made by Comberton but just couldn't beat the fantastic POSH defence with individual moments of brilliance by Georgie Campbell-Turner and Lauren Brown. Down the other end Challis, Foxy and Stacie Heron were causing Comberton all kinds of problems and then came the calm well thought out goal by Stacie Heron combining well with Emily Fox down the left wing, Foxy sliding the ball into Stacie's feet who seemed to take her time in deciding which part of the net she was going to strike which for the first time in the match gave POSH the lead. But if any team can cause danger then Comberton were certainly the team to try. Counting down on the clock Comberton seemed to be winning corner after corner but enormous credit goes to Cady Carolissen who met every ball and worked so incredibly hard throughout the entire game to help win the match for the POSH Girls. An awesome team performance by the girls, all they have left to do now is make this result count. Well Done girls and good luck for the next few matches.

Manager: Nikki Johnson Players: Lauren Brown • Cady Carolissen • Georgia Campbell-Turner • Amy Challis • Emily Fox • Sarah Galpin •Lauretta Budge • Stacie Heron (1) • Victoria Hoole • Hannah Moore • Elizabeth Pacey • Bethany Wilson (2)
