POSH Girls > Match Reports POSH Girls Match Reports - Feb 2nd 2008 U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls(6) v P'boro Diamonds(0) Sat 2nd Feb U11 POSH Girls hosted Peterborough Diamonds in the S-Tech League aware that if they kept their unblemished record and won 15 of 15 their lead would be unattainable and the title would be theirs. The first half was well matched and goaless until Alessia Mundo opened the scoring with a fine shot from the left in the nineteenth minute following some lovely combination play between Perkins and Lane, then Megan Parrett doubled the difference three minutes later to bring POSH in at half-time feeling confident and looking forward to the restart. From the whistle POSH continued in the same manner with Parrett hitting home after five minutes and Kim Lane netting shortly after with a cracker from the edge of the box. Diamonds played attacking football with three up front but could not find a way through the stout defence as POSH were able to counter attack with hardworking and unselfish Keir Perkins earning a tap in and a tremendous volley from Parrett to secure a hat-trick and a "trophy-lifting" 6-0 home win for POSH. The girls although Champions pledge to keep their foot on the pedal as they aim to remain undefeated for the duration of the season with their cup campaign due to start in March. Nice one girls, this is a job "well done" but "not yet finished!" Let's keep it going to the end of the season and not let anyone spoil the party!! They arrived full of enthusiam after good training session on wednesday. They were committed in the warm-up and seemed up for the challenge. They started with determination, passing the ball effectively. This lead to an exciting and open game for both teams. After a nail biting match last weekend POSH's manager and spectators were hoping for a more relaxed atmosphere. However Milton, were determined to give POSH a tough match and from the start used their strength and compact play to put the POSH Girls under pressure. In the first half POSH saw a way to break down the Milton defence by using their pace to spilt the Milton back four and sticking passes over the top for the speedy strikers to run at goal. Amy Challis opened up the score in the first half by using her speed to calmly stick one in the back of Milton's goal. After this followed a strong attack by the POSH pushing Milton's defence deeper towards their goal and forcing the goal keeper to make saves. Having won a corner Georgia Campbell-Turner placed the ball for the set piece and kicked a superb ball straight onto the boot of Beth Wilson who fired it into the net for another great goal by this young player. At 2-0 up POSH looked relaxed and confident but then came a strong attack by Milton and a break through on goal forcing Sarah Galpin to sprint off her line to stand up the Milton striker. However the nippy striker found the back of the POSH net with a lovely strike to raise the confidence of the Milton squad. With the score at half time being 2-1 POSH Girls were asked to look at their own game and to find ways around the strong challenges by the Milton team. As usual the girls took on board the half time talk and started the second half with strong attacking football. More goals were to follow in the second half and with the introduction of Abbey Goymor down the right wing and the brilliant battling of Emily Fox on the left, POSH Girls were able to feed balls into the attacking third. Combining well with the centre midfielders POSH piled on the pressure to allow Cady Carolissen to smash her goal home. Lauretta Burdge was also able to add to the score sheet and Challis hit her second of the match to leave the final result 5-1 to the POSH Girls.
