POSH Girls Match Reports - Feb 9th 2008

U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls(12) v Comberton(0)

Sat 9th

POSH U11 S-Tech Girls hosted this previously postponed fixture of Comberton Crusaders at Hampton College on a day that the sun finally decided to shine. Although having done enough to claim the title last weekend the POSH Girls were anything but resting on their laurels as they set about the weeks task. In changed positions POSH dominated from the start as the visitors allowed newly-crowned Young Sportswoman of the Year Kim Lane a run and a shot that only narrowly missed the target from the first kick. Long periods of pressure and possession meant that Keeper Katie was glad of the milder weather as she didn't get a touch on the ball as POSH fired home 6 times. In the second half POSH doubled their tally to a massive 12 with both familiar and unfamiliar names hitting the target as POSH worked relentlessly to pepper Comberton's goal. Attacking players defended comfortably and the defenders showed that goals can and will come from all over the park with one each for Ti Bennett and Fiona Plumb and Maria Butler nailing a double. Katie Plumb usually found at the other end looked at home up front finding lovely positions with bursting pace but was desperately unlucky not to have scored perhaps a hat-trick, as she pestered her opposite number! POSH illustrated how effective it is to work as a team, as each player for large portions of the game had to adapt their usual performance to accommodate the disciplines of their new roles. Every player individually deserves credit for their incredible team-spirit both on and off the field. Good stuff girls, see you Wednesday!

Manager: Justine Steele. Players: Katie Plumb• Fiona PLumb(1) • Tiesha Bennett(1) • Kim Lane(1) • Alessia Mundo(2) • Maria Butler(2) • Frankie Jepson(2) • Keir Perkins(1) • Megan Parrett(1) • Georgie Elsom(1)

U11s Fenland League March Rangers Hearts (3) V POSH Girls (4)

Sat 9th Feb

POSH U11's had an early start on saturday, travelling to March Hearts for a 10 o'clock start. POSH were full of determination realising the need to gain maximum points from this encounter. With a focused warm-up and the sun shining POSH started well, dominating from the first whistle. There was space for the girls to play effective passing football and to show the great improvement in their teamwork. This enabled POSH to take the lead when Alexa Hunter scored from a well worked series of passes from the midfield. Our dominance in all areas of the pitch allowed many opportunities to further the score. Jessica Blackbird slotted the second home. Unfortunatley POSH allowed March to penetrate their half for the last few minutes as they began to tire. This caused March to score just before half time. POSH 2 March 1. POSH knew that they should have capitalised on the many chances that they had in the first half and were determined to take them in the second half. Katherine Amps started this with a well followed in left footed shot. POSH again were dominant, but against the run of play March scored 2 further goals. Score now was 3-3. This was certainly not a true reflection of the amount of possession that POSH had throughout the game and the effective passing skills that they displayed. Credit to the team as they never stopped believing that they could win. With 5 minutes to go Jessica Blackbird after pressuring the goalie neatly put the ball in the back of the net. POSH were in the lead 4 - 3. This was the score at the final whistle. Well done to all the girls for the passion and desire you showed. Lets keep this going.

U13s S-Tech League POSH Girls (1) v Alconbury Colts (1)

Sat 9th Feb

Alconbury Colts arrived at Hampton College on Saturday full of determination and confidence to play this rearranged fixture against POSH Girls U13s. Although Alconbury started well the POSH Girls battled hard to find themselves attacking up pitch and creating some chances for themselves. This was a match that was full of end to end football and very exciting to watch. The game needed a goal but both goalkeepers were determined to keep the ball from hitting the back of their net. Sarah Galpin POSH Girls keeper made a save that was spectacular enough to be highlighted on Match of the Day! Her reaction off her line to meet the 50-50 ball which was being chased by a sprinting Alconbury player was brilliant, then launching herself onto the ball right at the feet of the striker showed awesome bravery. This should of been the turning point for the girls and with a couple of opportunities on goal before half time looked like lady luck was not shining on the team. With it being 0-0 at half time and the pressure mounting on the POSH Girls to win the match to keep them at the top of the table the girls needed to relax and enjoy their football. The second half showed a similar game to the first half with both sides attacking the opposition defense and causing problems. Cady Carolissen made an amazing run from the half way line to close down an Alconbury attack who had done the POSH back four to prevent the player from striking the ball. Eventually POSH Girls worked their magic and Amy Challis stuck gold putting the girls into the lead with about 15 minutes left to play. From the centre ball POSH Girls got straight in and again causing Alconbury huge problems made several more chances. Emily Fox's strike just bending above the bar, Stacie Heron's ball going wide, Beth Wilson's caught in the safe hands of the goalkeeper and the opportunities go on. Alconbury on the other hand were not ready to leave the game without some points forcing a corner which found an unmarked player in the 6 yard box who perfectly volleyed the ball into the net ending the match with a 1-1 result.

Manager: Nikki Johnson Players: Lauren Brown • Cady Carolissen • Georgia Campbell-Turner • Amy Challis (1) • Emily Fox • Sarah Galpin • Lauretta Burdge • Abbey Goymour • Stacie Heron • Victoria Hoole • Bethany Wilson
