POSH Girls > Match Reports POSH Girls Match Reports - Feb 23rd 2008 U11s S-Tech League Comberton(0) v POSH Girls(7) Sat 23rd POSH girls arrived bright and early as they travelled to Comberton. POSH without Parrett and Elsom who were on Fenland duties, felt confident on the back of their 12-0 victory two weeks ago. POSH started briskly with Alessia Mundo opening the scoring after only three minutes as she powered Kim Lanes cross into the back of the net. Comberton then gathered themselves and defended strongly with the Comberton keeper thwarting countless attacks with brave and agile decisions undoubtedly keeping her team in the game. Finally after twenty minutes POSH forced an opening as Mundos shot could not be held by the sticky fingered keeper and Keir Perkins fired home the rebounded ball. In the second half POSH used the width to good effect and were able to carve out opportunities with good passing to lengthen their lead. Frankie Jepson literally got the ball rolling as she passed beautifully to Perkins who dutifully placed the ball over the line. Mundo bagged twice with purpose, accuracy and with a great first touch. Whilst Lanes formidable free kick was deflected for the sixth goal and Perkins neatly slotted home for the seventh to join Mundo on a hat-trick. Final score 7-0 to POSH who start their cup campaign against Sawtry on Saturday 1030am at Hampton College. Manager: Justine Steele. Players: Katie Plumb• Fiona PLumb • Tiesha Bennett • Kim Lane(1) • Alessia Mundo(3) • Maria Butler • Frankie Jepson • Keir Perkins(3) U11s Fenland League POSH Girls (1) V Stamford (1) Sat 23rd Feb POSH U.11s faced an important match against Stamford, as the battle for survival in the league continued. With 11 focused players up for the match, it was going to be a competitive game. They showed passion and discipline right from the start. In the first half they played well, combining good passing and effective teamwork in defence.(Tasha infact had few saves due to the excellent defensive work and communication skills that are developing between the back players). POSH certainly played some of their best football of the season. This positive football lead to several chances, however the game was evenly matched which made for an exciting game for all watching. POSH deserved to take the lead just before half time with a series of well worked passes, with Megan Parrott was in position to slot into the net. 1-0 to POSH at half time. Manager: Laura Griggs. Players: Natasha Stubbs • Ellie Ireson • Kirstie Davis • Georgina Parrett • Jessica Blackbird • Alexa Hunter • Katherine Amps • Jessica Amps • Stephania Chaudhuri • Megan Parrott (1) • Georgie Elsom U13s S-Tech League POSH Girls (7) v Huntingdon (0) With two games left to play in the league the POSH Girls needed to keep their concentration and focus for their last fixtures. Although the match started off quite slow POSH Girls soon got into the flow of their game and at times played some great football passing it around the park leaving the opposition watching. Going forward POSH always looked threatening and had many chances on goal, however the Huntingdon goalkeeper stood firm and made some very good saves. Huntingdon had a couple of opportunities to push forward into the POSH girls defending half but as usual the POSH back four calmly and Cooley dealt with any attacking play and fed balls through to the midfield players who were then able to counter attack. At half time the score was 3-0 to the POSH but the girls were looking to add to this tally in the second half and they didn't disappoint. With a further four goals in the second half and some very good football played POSH girls have kept themselves at the top of the table with one game left to play! All the best girls have fun, play simple football, work as a team and go for it! U13s Fenland League POSH Girls (0) v Stamford (8) Sat 23rd Feb Last time POSH Girls met Stamford it was a 1-1 draw with Stamford scoring in the dying minutes, so all to play for in this match at home. Stamford came out strong in first half and with a couple of tricky players passing the ball around well they were certainly testing out the POSH's keeper and their defending ability. The POSH Girls showed great determination in this area but unfortunately the bombardment of Stamford proved too strong as Stamford managed to find the net. In the second half POSH entered onto the pitch with what looked like some new found determination and they certainly looked for the first five minutes like they were going to turn the match around. Playing a very good passing game, holding their positions well and keeping the ball in the attacking half all that was needed was a goal and this quite probably would have changed the game. But again it was not to be for the Girls as Stamford dominated once again and the final score ending up as 8-0 to Stamford. Players: Jazzy Priddis • Hanah Sansom • Dani Perkins • Lauretta Burdge • Kirsty Hall • Abbey Goymour • Hollie Turner • Gemma Stickles
