U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls(2) v Bishops Stortford(2)

Sat 8th Mar

POSH U11 S-Tech girls faced Bishops Stortford at home in their penultimate league game of the season. It was obvious from the whistle that this was going to be a tough and well competed game as POSH attacked and Bishops Stortford pressured. The wind again was fierce as Alessia Mundo took advantage as her cross come shot took a deflection and bounced over the line for the home team to sneak ahead. At the other end Katie Plumb in goal had an early exit as she sustained a painful injury and could take no further part. Captain Kim stepped up to the job and while POSH were on the back foot they tried to regain composure and take the game to the visitors. Deep into the first half Megan Parrett ignited the midfield as she found her own space and from 25 yards fired a scorcher for POSH's second, only to see the lead halved 2 minutes later as Bishops Stortford dribbled around the POSH to lift the visitors as half-time approached. In the second half another change in goal saw Parrett adopt the gloves as she bravely and decisively kept the visitors at bay until finally POSH succumbed to the pressure and conceded to level the score in an exciting end to end game. With grit and determination the POSH girls fought on and came close to stealing the game as the minutes ticked by. At the final whistle the visitors were delighted with the result and it becomes clear how difficult it is to defeat the POSH girls as they remain undefeated despite the massive efforts and determination of fired up Bishops Stortford. Final score 2-2 as the POSH girls wait 8 weeks to play the return match which will be their final league game of the 07-08 season.

U13s S-Tech League POSH Girls (6) v Alconbury (2)

Sat 08th March

Having played Alconbury Girls a couple of weeks ago in the league POSH Girls had to face them again for a cup match. In the last meeting Alconbury came out strong to pull off a 1-1 draw against the POSH but this time round it was the POSH Girls turn to set the pace of the match. From the whistle the girls dominated the attacking half pinning in Alconbury and making them defend the positive POSH. Every POSH player had been given a task to do and in the first 10 minutes of the match showed their manager they had taken everything on board. This was a game that showed spectators and manager how far the girls have come this season and how hard they have been working in training. The POSH Girls showed excellent displays of football during the match and with some great passing and skill Amy Challis soon opened up the score combining well with midfielder Beth Wilson. With difficult playing conditions due to the wind the POSH Girls worked the ball well on the ground to create many opportunities. A corner ball taken by Georgie Campbell-Turner found itself bending into the back of the net and a penalty neatly placed by Beth Wilson gave the POSH Girls a good lead. Not satisfied to settle with this POSH kept pushing back the Alconbury defence to land themselves another two goals before half time. Alconbury fought back to get themselves a goal before half time but it was the POSH going in happy at the half way mark. The second half may not have had as many goals but still the POSH Girls were showing some great displays of football and with this being their first season together as a 11-a-side team relationships on the pitch are now really beginning to show. Amy Challis was able to finish her game with a hat trick but credit goes to the whole team who played a great game of football. Final score 6-2
