POSH travelled away to replay the Cup game against local rivals Stamford. All meetings between these two teams this season have been very closely contested and this 2nd round replay was to be no different. POSH pressured from the start making it difficult for Stamford, keeping possession and playing some excellent football through the midfield creating opportunities to fire shots at the Stamfords goal. The second half saw a repeat performance from all players as they pushed hard on tired legs to prevent the ever-fighting strong-willed Stamford from stealing the game as it went into extra-time. Still goalless and battle-worn at the end of extra-time five brave players from both teams stepped up as nothing but spot kicks could separate these two teams today. Defender Ellie Ireson solidly netted POSH's first as Stamford scored to level. Captain Alexa Hunter also went low and hard to score as Stamford replied to draw level. Jess Blackbird drilled the ball just wide for POSH as Stamford also missed! Score 2-2. Goalkeeper Natasha Stubbs took the fourth and fired another low shot to score and then in turn was beaten by the Stamford strike re-setting the score at a nerve-jangling 3-3. Megan Parrett placed the the final ball on the spot for the visitors and put the pressure on the Home side as she found the back of the net making the score 4-3. Stubbs far from deterred by having not yet saved a penalty saved the best till last as she made a spectacular dive to secure her teams first victory over Stamford this season and progression into the semi-final of the Fenland League Cup.
