POSH Girls > Match Reports POSH Girls Match Reports - April 12th 2008 U11s S-Tech Cup P'boro Diamonds (3) v POSH Girls (4) Well I couldn’t have picked a more difficult game to do my first match report!! There is so much to report………..A truly outstanding game of football - one of my most nervous, exciting, challenging but rewarding matches I have ever had the pleasure to be involved in!!! (And as you all seem to think I’m old and a grandma - then that’s a lot of football matches) Everybody played a major part in the success of the girls reaching the final. A big mention to Justine who has prepared them well all season, Nikki for her recent coaching sessions and mentoring my ‘step up’ to such a massive job!! And a big thank you to all the parents for their continuous support of all the girls and the project. I am sure the large part of the girls success is down to your support!! And now on to the most important part………. The team……. And the match. Such spirit, commitment, passion, huge hearts and a genuine love of the game was shown in this match. We started off well, some great passing moving the ball wide and some great tricks from Alessia down the left hand side playing some cracking passes into Keir who held the ball up outstanding the whole match - at times fending off 3 defenders to keep the ball at the right end. And the first goal had just about the best football I have ever seen. A throw out wide from Katie to Fiona who passed the ball square to Maria then into Kim who with the same ‘captain marvel’ spirit she showed all game Kim fended off a midfield tackle spread the ball wide to Alessia lovely little drop of the shoulder past the player, ball into Keir who held the ball up well and passed a stunning little ball into Megan’s feet - who struck the ball so sweetly into the bottom hand corner ------ WOW!! 1-0 what a start. We then went a little quiet and to be fair to diamonds they fought back well giving a cracking shot from their striker for Katie to dive what seemed a million miles across her goal to tip the ball wide for a corner - a save Edwin Van Der Sar would have been proud of!!!! However they did pressure out an equaliser and then stole a goal to go 2-1 up. Half time - thank goodness, grandma’s heart was nearly giving up!!! Second half we went straight in at them PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE - they had to give in at some point… and they did a trip on Megan and up she stepped ‘cool as cucumber’ and tucked the penalty away nearly bursting the net with it…. What a goal! nerves of steel. 2-2 - I’ve never ran so far in all my life!!!! We kept going strong some great important tackles from Maria, Tiesha, and Fiona with all three calmly mopping up everything in that back third with ease. Then on comes Georgie for ‘captain Kim marvel’ who had run herself into the ground. Great vision from Georgie and tremendous attacking passes but it was a stunning cross field pass to Alessia that cut out all but 2 diamonds players and Alessia tricked her way past them then tucked a nice left foot shot under the goalkeeper - WOOO HOOO 3-2. What a great day - I will treasure forever. Thank you!!! “CHAMPIONS ARE MADE FROM SOMETHING DEEP INSIDE THEM --- A DESIRE, A DREAM A VISION!!!” Babysitting U’11s manager for the day…. This Semi-Final Cup Match saw them play Bishop Stortford league winners from last season and this season in the S-Tec League in their division. Still one game left for the POSH Girls to play before deciding whether the have won their league there is big pressure on the girls! In the first few minutes of the match POSH had to defend strongly against Bishop Stortford who attacked quickly up pitch but ran into Elizabeth Pacey and Georgia Campbell-Turner who swiftly dealt with the problem. With the wind strong both teams had difficulties keeping the ball on the pitch but when the POSH won the ball they quickly showed the opposition what they were all about with their great ability to use combination play and pass the ball sweetly around the park. Bishop Stortford pressured really well and closed down the POSH making it difficult for the girls to find Stacie Heron up front. Some way into the first half saw a ball intended to be crossed across the goal find the way into the back of the net a bitter disappointment for the POSH and Sarah Galpin who couldn't have done anything about it! Opportunities came for the POSH Girls down the other end of the pitch but didn't seem to catch the same luck. Towards the end another frustrating goal from Bishop Stortford ended the first half 2-0 up for the away side. Determined not to the let the match slip and with the confidence of coming back from the goals POSH went out to rescue the game. Holding Bishop Strortford back and gaining themselves more possession POSH worked hard. Relentless work from Amy Challis on the wing summed up the determination from the girls. Emily Fox who had come off due to a knee injury was replaced by Abbey Goymour who battled hard to win balls for the girls and set Bethany Wilson and Stacey Heron up. Cady Carolissen who seems to have the energy of five players took a great strike only to have it taken over the bar. Then Bishop Stortford worked a great goal to put them 3-0 up a bitter blow to the girls. But so what if POSH are 3-0 down the final whistle hadn't been blown. Stacie Heron picked up the ball in the final third and using her strength, determination and skill got her squad a goal back. Being a captain and keeping your players heads up is one thing but to score a goal and give the team the belief they can get another one was an amazing performance. With not enough time on the clock the girls couldn't get the game back but a fantastic performance by all girls on the pitch and in true POSH style showed the ethos of the club by their 'never say die' attitude. Bad luck girls but still an enormous achievement this season so far and it's not over yet! Keep that fight and determination for this weeks match and go for it. Best of luck for this week! U13s Fenland League Clenchwarton (3) v POSH Girls (0)
Drawing to the end of the season and with only a few matches left to play POSH Girls traveled away to Clenchwarton. With new positions after the success of last weeks second half performance the squad looked strong and in the first few minutes of the match POSH Girls put Clenchwarton under loads of pressure. Defending well throughout the midfield gave the POSH the opportunity to win balls and quickly counter attack and with the pace of Bethany Cameron up front POSH created many opportunities. Clenchwarton were only able to provide a couple of chances but were quickly dealt with by Jazzy Priddis who's confidence in goal is growing after every game. Unfortunately a goal mouth scrabble put Clenchwarton in front but as ever the POSH Girls fought back. A tactical change by Clenchwarton to put two stronger players in defence to try and deal with Bethany Cameron backfired as a ball from midfield was driven down the line to be picked up by Bethany and great skill to keep the ball on pitch and using her strength burst into the Clenchwarton area. Unlucky not to finish POSH then kept working the Clenchwarton side back towards their goal and with some fantastic play and determination by Abbey Goymour fed Bethany Cameron with a great ball which was delivered across goal unable to find the feet of another POSH player. Just before half time and unable to clear their lines Clenchwarton stole another goal. Second half told a similar story to the first half but half way through saw a change in the POSH line up by moving Bethany into midfield and Abbey up front. Causing Clenchwarton all kinds of problems in defence and putting them under pressure the only problem for POSH was finding the back of the net. The defence of the POSH worked well with Dani Perkins and captain Kirsty Hall working well and supporting each other but again Clenchwarton worked themselves into the box and with several chances to play the ball out they could only find the feet of a Clenchwarton player who sealed the game with another goal. A huge improvement with this squad and disappointing not to pick up any points I'm sure the girls will work hard in training and work hard for the next match. Players: Jazzy Priddis • Hanah Sansom • Dani Perkins • Lauretta Burdge • Kirsty Hall • Abbey Goymour • Bethany Cameron • Hollie Turner |
