POSH Girls > Match Reports POSH Girls Match Reports - April 12th 2008 U11s S-Tech Bishop Stortford (1) v POSH Girls (3) Well match number 2 of babysitting duties of the u11’s. Didn’t think my grumpy morning moods was going to withstand the early start, however coach grandma woke up chirpy and cheery looking forward to a great weekend of football and ignoring the fact that on Sunday Grandma was to reach the grand old age of 32!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A few thanks before we get into the details of the match: Many thanks again to the parents for travelling such a long way on a Saturday morning after a hard week………. Especially when the coaches sat nav failed miserably (that’s my excuse anyway) and my fear was we may well end up on the runway at Stanstead!!!! You & your girls commitment to the cause is exactly why they are so successful and will continue to be successful with your continued support, they are extremely lucky. Again another excellent game of breathtaking football from the girls on Saturday morning. We could have easily been 5 up by half time but just couldn’t hit the back of the net!!! 1-0 it was, and I was happy at how we were playing. A well taken corner from Bishops Stortford and they equalised early in the second half, I never had any doubt even then we would win this match. We were better prepared, focused and determined to win this match. We started to pressure well with Kim leading the drive forward with great tackling and spreading the ball wide to Megan, Georgie, Alessia and Frankie. The balls they were producing into Keir at different times were played with such incredible talent and vision the Manchester United team collectively would have been proud of. Keir rained shot after shot after shot at the Bishops Stortford goalkeeper and gave the opposition defence a nightmare the whole match, I doubt they will feel pressure like that again soon in any football match - until the cup final that is!!!!!!!!! At the back Maria had a fantastic game and attacked every ball that came anywhere near our half. Maria was supported extremely well by Fiona, Thiesha and on occasions Kim, all three girls mopped every loose ball up and played it forward with purpose to lead the attack again from the back. I doubt that Chelsea & Barcelona’s strike force combined could have got past our defence on the day….. I do not remember Bishops Stortford having more than one shot in open play the whole match…. Which of course the one shot they did have Katie managed to clear with ease. Katie’s distribution also deserves a mention as we immediately became an attacking force wide every time the ball ran through to Katie as she played the ball out brilliantly. Two great goals from Megan and Alessia gave us 3-1 and a terrific result! The only wish from the coaches point of view was that the combination of great play between these two girls did not result in Alessia’s amazing left foot sweet volley not skimming the post and it bursting the net like it deserved!!! My goodness in all my time watching, playing and scouting women, girls and boy’s football It has only been on an occasional time I have seen such incredible technique, vision and power to strike the ball in that fashion from one so young to which Rooney would have been proud of!!!! There is nothing I love more than a great game of football - and I got it. Happy Birthday Grandma! Everyone displayed excellent football, passion and spirit to remain unbeaten and win the league in style CONGRATULATIONS GIRLS!!!! In their first season as a 11-a-side team POSH Girls played their hearts out to produce a result that they can really be proud of! Willingham was the first team that the U13s faced this season and who would of thought that the re-match against this team would give them the league victory. All the girls went into the match very relaxed in the knowledge that they had prepared well for this game that had already been postponed twice and although the pressure was on as they needed to win the POSH Girls didn't disappoint. All season it has been very difficult to find fault with this squad and their ability to take information on board has been second to none. At times in the first half the girls had the spectators gasping for breath as they couldn't either put the ball in the back of the net or Willingham put the pressure on. However Stacie Heron broke the deadlock with a well taken strike to put her team ahead. Not long after this Bethany Wilson played a fantastic ball through to Amy Challis who picked it up down the wing and popped in a superb cross to the eagerly waiting Stacie who volleyed the ball into the back of the net. There have been some brilliant goals scored by the POSH Girls this season and this goal has to go down as one of the best goals scored alongside Bethany Wilson's goal against Comberton to secure the position at the top of the table. Every player worked fantastically well but the biggest compliment is the team spirit that the girls have. In the second half the POSH Girls were asked to step up the pressure and this they did, Vicotoria Hoole had a fantastic game in defence and to be fair I could write an essay on every players performance. Stacie netted a further two goals and Beth Wilson finished off the goal scoring with her goal leaving the team unbeaten in the league. Willingham Girls had a fantastic attitude and it was a pleasure to play such a good sporting side. All in all the girls have certainly exceeded all expectations this season and thoroughly deserve the title. As the manager of this team I am extremely proud of the girls and delighted with the results and development of all players. A massive thanks to all our parents this season who have been brilliant. But credit certainly goes to all the players and I for one am really looking forward to next season and hopefully many seasons to come. Thanks girls for all your hard work and making this season a really enjoyable experience. 'Up the POSH!' U13s Fenland League Discovery (6) v POSH Girls (1)
