POSH Girls Match Reports - November 10th 2007

U11s Fenland League Wyberton (2) v POSH Girls (3)

POSH U11s travelled to Boston in the Fenland league. POSH clicked as they displayed some excellent football in the first half and came up trumps against Wyberton Wanderers. The home team were first off the mark but just before the break Kirsty Davis played a beautiful through ball to set up Jess Blackbird as POSH drew level. In the second half Megan Parrett scored twice as a result of individual flare and great team play to maintain a lead dispite Wyberton scoring one of their own. Nervous moments followed but POSH will be delighted with their first win of the season as they look forward to travelling to Deeping Diamonds this weekend. Final Score 3-2 to POSH.

Manager: Laura Griggs. Players: Natasha Stubbs • Olivia Nunziata • Ellie Ireson • Kirstie Davis • Georgina Parrett • Megan Parrett • Jessica Blackbird • Alexa Hunter • Katherine Amps • Jessica Amps

U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls (3) v Histon Hornets (0)

POSH U11 S-Tech Girls entertained Histon Hornets at Hampton College this week. Top of the league POSH started well and enjoyed a lot of possession throughout leaving Katie Plumb in goal little to do. All goals came before the break as Kier Perkins neatly netted first. The second came from a powerful Alessia Mundo corner which was deflected as the near post by the unfortunate Histon defender. Mundo needed no help with the third as a finely struck ball soared across the line leaving Histon chasing the game. In the second half Kim Lane dictated in midfield and combined with the defence and attack to ensure a coach pleasing clean sheet stretching the lead to 8 points in the S-Tech league. Final Score 3-0

Manager: Justine Steele. Players: Katie Plumb • Fiona PLumb • Tiesha Bennett • Kim Lane • Alessia Mundo • Maria Butler • Frankie Jepson • Keir Perkins

U13s S-Tech League Burwell (1) v POSH Girls (3)

POSH Girls U13s travelled away to Burwell for their first cup match of the season. In the first half the POSH Girls were put under pressure by a strong Burwell side who fought hard to gain possession and break away on some quick counter attacking. But POSH Girls defence stood equally strong and with Lauren Brown and Georgia Campbell-Turner combining well in central defence and with their determined attitudes, distributed balls out wide to se the girls up with their own attacking play. Eventually a goal came from Stacie Heron but unfortunately the lead was short lived after Burwell equalled the score before half time. In the second half the POSH Girls stepped up the tempo and showed the opposition their discipline and passion. Making small adjustments to the tactics and dealing with spilt balls POSH Girls kept the ball in the attacking half for about 80% of the second half. A tense half and loads of tasty ingredients had spectators biting their nails. Wining corner after corner POSH Girls kept up relentless energy forcing Burwell's keeper to make a few saves. Then POSH struck gold when Cady Carolissen fired her shot into the back of the net. Determined to make their hard work count POSH firing on all cylinders worked the ball into the feet of Heron for her second goal of the match. The other end of the pitch had its own drama when a free kick was awarded to Burwell outside the 18 yard box but safe hands Sarah Galpin scooped up the ball and sent Burwell away! Final score 3-1 POSH girls.

U13s Fenland League POSH Girls (0) v Clenchwarton (7)

POSH Girls U13s hosted Clenchwarton in the Fenland League and competed strongly in the first half. However the visitors found a way through despite Abbey Goymour in goal putting in a brave and admirable performance. Kirsty Hall in midfield battled throughout and Keely Phillips on her debut showed she will be a force to be reckoned with. POSH had their chances but were unable to convert and eventually succumbed to a 7-0 defeat. Despite the score line POSH showed they can play some lovely football but will need to sustain this for longer periods to find success. Self-belief is the key for these girls along with trust for their team mates and a passion to bring what they know and can do onto the field. With only four games played it is still early days in this league and we all should look and work towards the future where better days lay ahead.

Players: Abbey Goymour • Kirsty Hall • Megan Jepson • Danielle Perkins • Jazzy Priddis •Amy Morris • Hannah Sansom • Hollie Turner • Keely Phillips
