POSH Girls Match Reports - November 17th 2007

U11s Fenland League POSH Girls (1) v Deeping (4)

Posh U11's entertained the league leaders, Deeping Diamonds at Hampton. Posh played a very disciplined game from the start and showed real passion from the first whistle. They had several chances within the first 5 minutes from well worked play through the midfield. However Deeping were the first to score in the 11th minute. Posh defence were solid and were the instigators of the play which enabled Megan Parrot to blast the ball into the goal from a well worked set of passes in the 18th minute. This made for an entertaining rest of the first half with Posh having several shots just wide of the post or saved by their goalie (who was kept busy!), however Natasha the Posh goalie also kept us in the game with a set of spectacular saves, (especially one that deserved a slot on the save of the season, where she managed to retrieve the ball with her legs!). Posh played an excellent passing game, but unfortunately just before half time were 2-1 down through a Deeping defenders pass from over the half way line that ended up in the top left hand corner of Posh's goal. Posh started the second half with a continued positive attitude and showed real team spirit, passing the ball and providing opportunities to level the score. However Deeping scored their 3rd goal against the run of play and eventually a forth through an unfortunate deflection off the shoulder, from a well struck corner in the final minute of play. Posh maintained a disciplined approach through out the game and displayed a growing team spirit.

U11s S-Tech League Comberton (0) v POSH Girls (6)

POSH U11 Girls travelled to Comberton to take on the Crusaders in the
S-Tech league. POSH were able to start strongly as Frankie Jepson
came close twice in the first few minutes. The visitors never looked
back as the first goal was made by Keir Perkins and scored by Alessia
Mundo who 10 minutes later repaid the compliment by supplying Perkins
with a beautiful cross who volleyed to finish. Comberton struggled
to hold on to the ball and endured long periods chasing the game as
POSH took control. Georgie Elsom netted early in the 2nd half and
Captain Kim Lane grasped an opportunity as POSH saw their half time
tally double. Defender Fiona Plumb again came close as she fired 1 in
from distance forcing the Comberton Keeper to make the save. POSH
finished the game as they started, Perkins scoring twice to
deservedly nail her 2nd hat trick of the season. POSH played a
delightful game with an abundance of team spirit and look forward to
sterner opposition next weekend as they face Bishops Stortford.
Final score 6 - 0

U13s S-Tech League Huntingdon (0) v POSH Girls (10)

Saturday saw POSH Girls travel away to Huntingdon at Jubilee Park to play the Huntingdon Rowdies. It was important that the POSH Girls kept their discipline against the bottom of the table side and at times showed little moments of magic. Unfortunately due to Huntingdon pulling all their players behind the ball this made it very difficult for POSH to break through the wall of players. However working hard and as usual fantastic team spirit POSH Girls fought well to take a 5-0 lead at half time. On occasions Huntington Rowdies attacked quickly getting the ball into their attacking half, only to be met with a solid defence who dealt swiftly with any trouble and sent POSH Girls back up the pitch. In the second half saw an improvement in the POSH Girls with them holding their positions much better and a change of tactic by the manager saw the girls trying out a new formation by playing 3-4-3. A very cold Sarah Galpin in goal only really touching the ball a couple of times was glad of the full time whistle where she was able to go and get warmed up. Bethany Wilson in mid-field who was a great play maker on Saturday distributed some excellent balls through to Amy Challis on the wing who powered down the side to be unlucky on a couple of occasions. Big credit goes to Stacie Heron and Cady Carolissen who’s work rate was great and managed to bag 4 goals a piece. It’s difficult to fault the girls performance on Saturday especially when they win games 10-0. It is also great to see the girls having such good attitudes both to training and match days and the management is looking for this continued professional attitude to last. Final result 10-0 POSH Girls.

U13s Fenland League Glinton (4) v POSH Girls (0)

POSH Girls were away at Glinton on Saturday for their fifth match of the season. Its not been the best start to the season for the girls but confidence from the staff at POSH Girls Development Centre saw a remarkable performance by the girls against Glinton. Full of energy and belief saw POSH Girls battling hard to defend and attack the game. Amy Morris in midfield delivered some great balls through to the strikers who were unable to break down Glinton’s excellent goalkeeper. Dani Perkins showed a new side to her game where determination was off the scale, Jazzy Priddis who for the team wore the goal keepers gloves had an amazing game between the sticks and Kirsty Hall who gave a captains performance by leading by example with her work rate. If a game of football was about entertainment, determination and contagious team spirit and energy POSH Girls would be league leaders. Although the result did not reflect the performance of the POSH side they certainly now have something to build on. The test will be for the squad if they can take this new found spirit and put out a performance on a regular basis. With the signing of Bethany Cameron and Keely Phillips I am sure it will not be long before POSH are firing in the goals and the second half of the season should be a very exciting one. Big credit to Megan Jepson and Hannah Sansom on Saturday for defending fantastically well. Although the result didn’t go our way with this new found attitude in the squad it felt like a win for the managers. Final result 4-0 Glinton.

Players: Bethany Cameron • Kirsty Hall • Megan Jepson • Danielle Perkins • Jazzy Priddis •Amy Morris • Hannah Sansom • Hollie Turner • Keely Phillips
