POSH Girls Match Reports - Nov 24th & 25th 2007

U11s Fenland League Hungate (4) v POSH Girls (1)

Posh U11s travelled to Emneth to play Hungate. Posh were unfortunate to go 1-0 behind within the first 5 minutes with a shot that went under the keeper (which was caused by a bumpy pitch). However the team worked hard to level the score and were rewarded with a deflected shot from Jessica Blackbird in the 14th minute. Hungate's experience showed and they attacked strongly, causing problems for the Posh defence, however brave goalkeeping and effective play by the midfield enabled the score to remain at 1-1 at half time. Hungate started strongly from the whistle and scored a well worked goal within the 2nd minute. Their experience and strength showed and was rewarded with a 3rd goal. Posh girls showed great teamwork and commitment and had opportunities to come back into the game with some excellent play within the midfield feeding the ball through to Jessica up front. Several shots narrowly missed or were saved by the goalie. Posh girls worked hard throughout the match and kept a positive attitude. Unfortunately Hungate scored their 4th goal after half an hour. In the last 10 minutes Posh displayed real passion up to the final whistle.

U11s S-Tech League POSH Girls (4) v Bishop Stortford (2)

U11 S-Tech leaders POSH Girls hosted second place Bishop Stortford at home on a bitterly cold snow threatening morning at Hampton College. In contrast the outlook on the pitch was far brighter as both teams shone from the start with hot passing and a fiery determination that kept the spectators cheering. Bishop Stortford struck first with a clinical strike after just three minutes however it took Kier Perkins just three minutes more to level it after cracking the post with her initial strike as she received a wonderful ball from Kim Lane in defence. Perkins doubled her tally as she again hit the back of the net to secure a half time lead of 2-1. After the break Bishop Stortford again struck first as a lapse in technique allowed the visitors to equalise. But Katie Plumb more than deserves credit for a magnificent save just minutes later and her agile movement to gather in the box keep POSH from going behind a second time enabling them to attack from the back. Leaving it late but showing immense will and desire for their team mates POSH took the lead with seven minutes remaining. Alessia Mundo cleverly found the perfect ball to Megan Parrett who duly finished without doubt. Not content to regain the lead Parrett stretched it as she fired home to bring the game to a 4-2 conclusion. POSH maintain their unbeaten record and their stranglehold on the league at the half way point of the season.

U13s S-Tech League POSH Girls (4) v Milton Colts (0)

POSH Girls U13s played at home to Milton Colts on Saturday in near freezing conditions. Having reached half way through the season and remaining top of the table on goal difference it was important for the girls to maintain their position. Milton Colts worked hard to put the pressure on the POSH Girls and at times making it extremely tricky for POSH to break through. It appeared that every time a POSH player had the ball Milton surrounded them with two or three players. But soon POSH broke down this defensive play by switching the ball and attacking out wide adding some brilliant combination football to stick the ball in the net. At half time the result was 2-0 thanks to Emily Fox and Cady Carolissen. Second half brought more creative passing from the POSH Girls and now showing some awesome understanding of each other stepped up the pace. Milton at times showed some really strong attacking play but were met by POSH's brick wall otherwise known as a back four. Then Milton Colts won a corner towards the later part of the second half, POSH Girls who had defended well all match again met the ball and distributed a long ball through to Stacie Heron who's first touch and quick feet took on the goalkeeper and calmly go another goal. Bethany Wilson who has great vision on the pitch and had been slotting excellent balls through to her team mates all match finished off the game with a brilliant strike just inside the 18 yard box. Final score 4-0 POSH.

Manager: Nikki Johnson Players: Lauren Brown • Georgia Campbell-Turner • Cady Carolissen • Amy Challis • Emily Fox • Sarah Galpin •Lauretta Burdge • Stacie Heron • Victoria Hoole • Elizabeth Pacey • Bethany Wilson

U13s Fenland League POSH Girls (0) v Discovery (5)

POSH Girls U13s Fenland team were at home to top of the table team Discovery Girls. Over the last couple of weeks POSH Girls having worked extremely hard in training and showing more confidence on pitch now started to show what a team they can be. Continuing with their determination from last week the POSH Girls battled hard and defended well. Credit goes to Discovery who were tough competitors but the POSH Girls were prepared for a fight. The first goal came after 25 minutes from Discovery who took the only chance they had been given to net a goal. The first half continued to have the POSH spectators jumping in excitement as the girls came close to equalizing before half time. In the second half the battle continued and with Dani Perkins increasing in confidence taking on players down the wing kept the POSH Girls going forward. Bethany Cameron who's determination is faultless was unlucky on a couple of occasions to get on the end of the ball to finish. Unfortunately Discovery were able to open POSH up and score four goals in the second half. POSH who are without a permanent goalkeeper kept their heads high and never once gave up. An improvement again on last weeks game and its only time before this team hit back with vengeance. Final score 0-5 Discovery.
